Website Changes.

Today has been a busy day for linickx.com the poor server must be tired, I’ve made a whole load of changes today including wordpress upgrades and url moves - I’ve removed the word “blog” from everywhere as it was kinda redundant :D

Some content still needs to be ported from my custom php to wordpress, but it should all be finished soon. I’ve got the wonderful redirection plug-in taking care of everything, if you experience any problems please let me know !

Security updates only for Fedora 7 / RHEL & Centos 5

I found this on redhat.com the other day….

It is now possible to limit yum to install security updates only. To do so, simply install the yum-security plugin and run the following command:

yum update –security

Hopefully this will allow fedora users to have the option of running a “stable” install :)

USB Networking with Fedora 7 & n800

There are times where you cannot use WiFi, for example my workplace’s WLAN uses LEAP, which maemo doesn’t support. I found that setting up USB networking on my n800 was a bit of a pain since there isn’t a single document… if you check my del.icio.us feed you’ll see I bookmarked all I could find with a usbnet tag.

These are the steps I ran through to enable usb networking between my nokia n800 and my fedora 7 laptop.

Nokia n800 icon

After seeing this post on planet maemo, I wanted to replace my “applications” button with an n800 icon, but I couldn’t find one anywhere… I found a couple of icons in /usr/share/icons/hicolor/scalable/hildon that where close to what I wanted (there’s a bluetooth icon, and input one) but they weren’t quite right, so this is what I managed to mash up. :cool:

Firefox Extension - Flashblock

I’m not a great fan of flash, it seems to eat up bandwith, processor and memory very quickly.. not to mention the hassle of trying it working on a linux x86_64 machine ! I recently came across this great plug-in..

Flashblock :: Firefox Add-ons
Never be annoyed by a Flash animation again! Blocks Flash so it won’t get in your way, but if you want to see it, just click on…

The white-list functionality is nice… i.e block all except “blah”.. the option to run it in a black-list mode would be good for those who are only offended by flash on certain sites.

My Maemo Bugs Activities.

Apologies to anyone who works on the bugs.maemo team, I was bored this AM and decided to ask for some features I want, as I felt guilty about using up someones time (who could be coding fixes for real problems), I also decided to check if some bugs reported by other people where also bugs on my n800…. ahh, back to work :D
