Hello, my Name is Nick [LINICKX] Bettison, and I’m slowly improving my site, and making it more credible as a blog, and apparently some of you are interested in me, not just what I write…. Obviously as soon as I finish writing this it’ll be out of date, but at least you get an idea!

What you I do ?
Well, by profession I’m a Technical Security Consultant, basically I get to deal with fun network and security issues, thing like firewalls, vpn, IDS & vulnerability assessment (although not a lot of that). Primarily I try and stay out of the support game, and focus on project work.

I have two main goals at the moment, work - I’m studying.. well I started CISSP, but to be honest I found the material boring, and not at all technical; I pride myself in being a Techie, and a change in jobs has moved my focus. I’m brushing up on my background networking with a view to achieve CCNP & CCDP to complement my CCSP, CISSP is still on the agenda, so is CCIE security, but right now they seem a long way away ! The second goal is always fun, and that’s improving linickx.com and enough PS2 time to keep me sane

How would I describe myself ?
I recently got asked this, and really had to think about the answer, I’m going for Predictable Purist.
Predictable :- I try to keep things consistent, if I’m gonna do something or answer a question, keep it the same, this saves a lot of trouble in the long run.
Purist :- It’s not finished until it’s done, now I don’t mean perfectionist, my desk isn’t tidy enough, and perfectionists are the same no matter what they do, me I’m only one when it suits me, and when it does it has to be right.

What do I do in my spare time ?
Well I have a quiet mix, of family time with my two girls, Playstation2/ps3 obsession, PHP development, and Linux enthusiasm.
