How to Get Google Browser Sync outside the USA

Some people may have noticed that you can’t install Google Browser Sync for Firefox if you live outside of the USA. If you try and download the xpi package directly you get this page This product is not available in your country :-(

Well I’ve got a neat trick, try this link instead: http://anon.free.anonymizer.com/http://toolbar.google.com/firefox/extensions/toolbar/google-browsersync.xpi

  1. That’s not completely true despite the claims. They “try” to block all but US. I’m in the US. My IP recently changed by my ISP due to upgrades. Apparently, Google now thinks I’m outside the US. If not for this, I think Google would have hit a home run with this product.

Instead, some people get stuck with 1 computer that has it, and another that doesn’t, defeating the whole purpose of Syncing. You would think travellers would be the main target for Sync users. I guess not!

Thanks for the link. I hate downloading mirrored extensions, and rather go through a known trusted proxy provider. This

  2. I had browsersync installed on my desktop and a laptop. Recently I changed my laptop and was trying to set up browsersync on the new laptop. After several frustrating attempts I discovered your blog post and installed it on the new laptop. Everything seems to be working but the two machines are not synced! Am at my wits end. All or any help appreciated:-)

  3. Hi Mohan,
I do the same thing, sync work laptop with home PC. I’d suggest backing up & deleting your profile on one machine, and re-installing. As long as the PIN’s & google accounts are the same on both then it should work ;) – Good Luck !
